Privacy Policy for MacroCal
Last Updated: November 19, 2025
Introduction
MacroCal ("we," "our," or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our application.
Camera Access
Why We Request Camera Access:
MacroCal requests access to your device's camera to enable you to capture photos of your meals for tracking nutritional and caloric information. This feature allows you to maintain a visual food diary alongside your macro tracking.
Example Usage: When you log a meal, you can take a photo of your plate to visually document what you ate. For instance, if you're having grilled chicken with vegetables, you can capture an image of the meal to associate with your macro entry (e.g., 40g protein, 15g carbs, 10g fat). This helps you remember your meals and maintain an accurate visual record of your nutrition journey.
How Camera Data is Used:
- Photos are stored locally on your device only
- Images are associated with your meal entries to provide visual context
- Photos are never uploaded to external servers or shared with third parties
- You can delete any photos at any time by removing the associated meal entry
Data Collection and Storage
MacroCal collects and stores the following types of information:
Information You Provide:
- Meal Data: Food items, portion sizes, macronutrient values (protein, carbohydrates, fats), and calorie counts that you manually enter
- Photos: Images of meals captured using the camera feature
- Personal Goals: Your target macro and calorie goals that you set within the app
